John graduated from Philadelphia Biblical University. He holds a Master of Divinity degree from Toronto's Tyndale Seminary and received a Doctor of Ministry from Trinity International University in Deerfield, Ill.
In 2005, John became senior pastor of King Street Church in Chambersburg, Penn. Prior to that, he pastored churches in Cape Cod, Toronto, and suburban Chicago. From 2003 to 2005, in addition to his work as pastor, John also served as an associate editor in Preaching Resources for Christianity Today International. He has written numerous articles appearing in publications such as LEADERSHIP Journal, BUILDING CHURCH LEADERS, CHRISTIANITY TODAY, and the CHRISTIAN HERALD. He is author of Stories from God's Heart (Moody Press, 2000) and a contributing editor of the book, The Art and Craft of Biblical Preaching (Zondervan, 2005).
He and his wife, Amy, have been married since 1982. They have two daughters, Jathniel and Charissa.
