Originally from Northern California, Ken grew up attending the small Chinese American Baptist church that his paternal grandparents had helped establish. He was baptized in ninth grade and had his sights set on being a medical doctor. Ken earned his B.A. in Biology from UC Berkeley in 1976, but returned home to Sacramento unsure about his future. That summer after serving as youth director, he struggled to know if God was calling him to be a pastor. Two years later, he headed south, earning both an M.Div. and a D.Min. from Fuller Seminary. He joined the staff of Evergreen Baptist Church of LA in 1981, just as it became the first Asian American church. In 1996, Ken became the senior pastor and has guided Evergreen to be one of the most diverse churches in America. He has served as a trustee for InterVarsity Christian Fellowship and Westmont College, and is currently vice-chair of the Asian American Drug Abuse Program. Ken is currently an adjunct at Haggard Graduate School of Theology in Azusa and Bakke Graduate University in Seattle. He and wife "Snoopy" have been married since 1981 and have one daughter, Janessa. They reside in Sierra Madre, California.
