I look for a genuine servant's heart and the love of Christ to be evident. Love for people. A person who seeks the heart of God and has counted all things rubbish for the cause of Christ. Someone sold out for God. Someone I would want to be like. Someone I could model. Someone who is truly in touch with God and the peace of God rests on them. That when I look deep into them I see Jesus'. Traits, characteristics and love.

A person that would always stand for the best in their lives and be willing to give it without hestiation as Christ did through His Father. I have been blessed in life with great mentors who were always willing to give and assist without telling me what to do. They listen and pray for me. God blessed my life with wonderful loving ministers.

Patience, to allow the person being mentored to grow and find their way in God's time and with His guidance.

Although there are many qualities I would look for, the greatest would be humility. Without humility, a mentor is not teachable, and is therefore, unable to adequately teach. Without humility, a mentor is proud and will have the tendancy to be condescending, judgmental, impatient and uncompassionate. Humility will allow the mentor to relate, care and respond with gentleness and love.
