Prof. Koessler is right on target! I have pastored in THREE different denominations in small churches & finally at 62 Years of age I have chosen to "settle down" & simply love a small church congregation. I am beginning my 7th year here & that is the longest I have served in any pastorate! I am discovering that if you love the people & really pastor them, they begin to open up & even a small church can get a vision for outreach beyond their local fellowship. No, it doesnt happen as fast but the vision for outreach is starting to take root, we have actually had NEW people visit! I'm so gload to see your publication recognize the place of the small church! I am a pastor of a small church and his observation is exactly the way I feel. I have grown discontent feeling the people are satisfied with their church not really wanting it to grow. I feel my gifts and abilities could be better used serving a larger congregation. I want to be faithful where God has put me but I do want to see the minsitry grow. I would have like to have heard more of what he had to say on this topic.
